Master of Arts in Education + California Teaching Credential
BATTI, in partnership with the University of the Pacific, offers a six-semester evening and weekend program in which paid teaching residents earn a Master of Arts in Education and a preliminary California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Residents can study in person in San Francisco or fully online.
Our small seminars, led by dynamic instructors and complemented by careful coaching from thoughtful, experienced supervisors, foster an atmosphere of reflection, collegiality, and support. It’s a community designed to attract passionate people to teaching and help them thrive.

Pathways
The BATTI Master of Arts in Education and preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential is a six semester evening and weekend program. The combined credential and Master’s sequence totals 32 units.
Pathway A: BATTI Bay Area (IN PERSON): Resident teachers who live in the Bay Area take classes in person in downtown San Francisco.
Pathway B: BATTI Beyond the Bay (VIRTUAL) : We proudly offer a fully online program for teachers that includes synchronous and asynchronous classes for residents who live in the Bay Area and in other areas of California.

Public School Requirement
The CTC requires credential candidates to work for 150 hours in a public school program. Most BATTI residents complete their hours in the summer between their first and second year.

Yes. BATTI’s two-year program is specifically designed for working professionals. Coursework takes place during evenings and weekends, while the paid teaching residency component happens during the school day.

Graduates earn a Master of Arts in Education degree issued by the University of the Pacific’s Gladys L. Benerd School of Education, along with a preliminary California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.

Yes! The program supports candidates in earning a preliminary California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential through BATTI’s partnership with the University of the Pacific, an accredited university whose programs satisfy CTC requirements.

Teacher Induction is a one-year program required by California to clear a preliminary teaching credential. BATTI offers this program in partnership with the Center for Teacher Innovation and the Riverside County Office of Education. Induction must be completed within 5 years of graduating with a preliminary multiple subject credential.

BATTI combines the academic rigor of a University of the Pacific master’s degree with a small-cohort, community-centered learning model and a paid teaching residency. The evening and weekend schedule is built specifically for career changers and working professionals, and the partner school network provides job placement support across California.
